Saigon – Siem Reap (Extensions)

VIETNAM- CAMBODIA (6 days, 5 nights)

Day 1: Saigon (Arrival)

Upon arrival in Saigon, walk outside the terminal, meet your local guide with your name on a signboard and transfer to the hotel for a two-night stay.

Lunch at your own leisure. 

2:30PM – join a guided tour of Ho Chi Minh City which was built by the French in 1850. We begin our day with a visit to the Central Post office and along the way we will also view the Saigon Opera House, constructed by the French in 1898. We visit the Independence Palace also known as the Reunification Palace, designed by the architect Ngo Viet Thu. The palace was the home and former workplace of the president of South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. We also visit the War Remnants Museum which primarily contains exhibits relating to the Vietnam War.

Tonight, meet your fellow travellers for Welcome dinner in a local restaurant. After, transfer back to the hotel.

Day 2: Cu Chi Tunnels (2-hour drive) 

08:30AM – meet your guide at the hotel lobby and we depart for a 2-hour drive northwest of Saigon to the famous Cu Chi tunnels. The tunnel complex was initially started in 1948 to protect the Viet Cong guerrillas from the French air and ground sweeps. The tunnels also served as communication routes, storage facilities for food and weapon caches as well as hospitals and living quarters for guerrilla fighters throughout the American war. A visit to the underground villages will provide a better understanding of the tunnels’ history, the hardship of life in the tunnels and the Vietnamese resilience during combat. Return to Saigon and visit a cooking school were we learn how to make a traditional Vietnamese dish in a cooking class followed by lunch.

Day 3: Mekong Princess Embarkation 

11:30AM – This morning there will be some free time after breakfast before we transfer to the RV Mekong Princess. Enjoy lunch on board with breathtaking views as we set sail for along the Saigon River. Join your fellow travellers this evening for the Welcome Reception and Dinner on board.

Day 4-9: Mekong River

Explore the Mekong River.

Day 10: Disembarkation / Kampong Cham – Siem Reap by Road (5 hours)

Disembarkation in Kampong Cham, from Kampong Cham we drive to Siem Reap to the hotel for our check-in. 

Lunch at Champey Restaurant. 

This afternoon, board a tuk tuk for a tour through the city and after stopping to have photos taken for your Angkor complex entrance pass, you arrive at the gate of the renowned Angkor Wat Temple which we will visit. Then, enter through the south gate of Angkor Thom for a guided tour of the Bayon temple, known for its mesmerizing Buddha faces and one of the most stunning temples in Angkor.

Day 11: Half Day Angkor Temples & Preak Dak

Continue your Guided Sightseeing of the Angkor Temples at Ta Prohm. Tree roots cover the ruin walls, allowing you to experience the temple with the same wonder as early explorers. Then visit Banteay Srei, a unique temple built on a small scale from red sandstone, which can be carved like wood. En route stop at a local village famous for making Khmer noodles by hand.

The tour begins by visiting Preak Dak which is a small rural village 17km out of Siem Reap City, a famous and popular place for Khmer Noodles (called Num banh chok) where visitors can explore and understand more about the rural lifestyle of villagers in Cambodia. You will see how the local people make the traditional Noodles with the ancient heavy stone mill which normally takes about 1 hour.

Day 12: Half Day Kampong Pluk Village visit on Lake Tonle Sap

Boat trip to Kampong Pluk village, you start with a boat ride beside the surrounding flooded mangrove forests and enjoy the biosphere. Furthermore, you will visit a school, restaurant and shops, all moored in the middle of this massive lake. Then return to Siem Reap to have lunch at a local restaurant.

Lunch at The Square 24.

Free time to explore Siem Reap and more of the Angkor Archaeological Complex.

Private dinner with Apsara show at Khmer Royal dinning.

(Return home)

Meet with your tour guide in the hotel lobby for a group transfer to the Siem Reap International Airport for your flight home.
